On a cold dark night in the middle of America a girl commits suicide jumping off the tallest building in town and the state and local media do not cover it. It doesn't make TV and it doesn't make the local paper.
She put up a ladder to get access to a fire escape so that she could climb up to the top 9th floor and jump and she jumped down to the concrete to her death at 4:00am in the dark in deepest despair that few can ever imagine. She left a suicide note that maybe a lot of people needed to hear but they will never hear it because the powers that be say the hearing of it will cause a rash of suicides but if our society is that dysfunctional, that sick shouldn't we need to know about it and face it in very serious terms. Shouldn't we know the reason behind an ultimate sacrifice. Shouldn't we at some time in our society's existence have to imagine and realize that dark deepest despair and wake up to the world that produces such despair. Otherwise it just goes on and on repeated how many unacceptable times as another soul somewhere needs attention and understanding. A callous world wins again as a wrong is never exposed and an injustice in the eyes of another soul never heard. Another cry of desperation is ignored in our strangely adverse to desperation society.
Indifferent silence works so well in a world on a temporary dark trajectory but we know better than that don't we.
So they will sweep the suicide under the rug and keep it hid but a society that doesn't know it self can't heal itself. A society that doesn't know it is causing this kind of outcome will never change to change the outcome. We hide it hoping it will go away but it never just goes away the way our parents and authorities once told us our problems will not go away when we sweep them under the rug. But yet because of financial concerns and business reputations, and yes the kids always had an excuse too didn't they?, the news is not faced as the authorities sweep it under the rug.
God provides the answer when we face things down to the core of what we really are but we rarely demonstrate that kind of strength. If we as a society would demonstrate we must face things down to the core we would teach our children a trait that would strengthen them when the going gets tough but we instead teach them by example to still sweep it under the rug, stay in denial and finally falter in the moment of truth.
