God has asked us to obey our government and to honor our leaders but this does not extend to agreeing with all they say or obeying them when it is in conflict with God's laws. As for God giving the power of the sword to government, this is in regard to us obeying in a general sense. He has given governments authority on earth and the majority of all empires to rule the earth have been ungodly and secular. This is a general right He has given to man, whether they believe in Him or not, just as He gives man the right to breath and go on living in sin but it is not an endorsement of man's ways.
