"Drill Baby Drill" is not just Palin's but essentially the Republican mantra for years as they did all they could during the Bush years to trash wise regulation on offshore oil drilling claiming it was safe enough. If all the beaches in the gulf belonged to Republican states then that would be some justice but the price is far too high to make the point. Maybe the stupid oil serving GOP and culpable administration will get it now. We were only reminded about a month ago that the return on offshore oil drilling is much too low relative to the risk.
And so now....
This mess is unbelievable, up to 5000 barrels a day leaking out and weeks before it is stopped? If you cannot cap it and cap it fast you do not drill. There are no exceptions, there cannot be, period. The price is far too high can we not see that. With a little foresight we could have seen it but our leadership's vision is blinded by oil lobbyist influence. How our country gets screwed up always comes back to that doesn't it?, the power of money's influence.
Ok, now I'm hearing 90 days to stop the oil flow. 90 days? 3 months? Please tell me I'am hearing that wrong. We don't do that, we don't let oil run into the ocean waters for 3 months at 5000 barrels a day. Hello! How much stupidity and incompetency can this nation endure? Now, in one day we find out that we the people will be paying for any future bank failures(thanks to the rightwing) and paying for the oil spill through higher prices at the pump and while that is going on we have to sleep with one eye open for concessions to Wall Street under the cover of the oil spill.
Heretofore democracy will be a full time job. Somethings getting ready to move.
