I have a bad reaction to the notion of a total allegiance to anything down here other than the Lord. Talk of total allegiance coming from especially those who are coming in pushing extreme right-wing politics is especially chilling and creepy or in other words how much history do we have to go back over? Heil this, Heil that, Hirohito is who? the Pope is what? Caesar is who? One of those occurred 2000 years ago, another 1200 years ago, and another about 70 years ago. Yep, just 70. Think we are done?
Flag waving and seeming worship seems to ride hand in hand with concepts such as total allegiance. The U.S. Flag is a symbol or image of what it represents. The words of the U.S. Constitution are enough to be venerated not some image. Why is it that people even back to the tribes and savages have to have some object to bow down and hold up. Hasn't someone understood yet that we are advanced now beyond some kind of object veneration and that content and understanding are what matters. Can you believe I have to even explain this in 2017?
The Bible says that "they will worship the image of the beast. The book of Revelation talks of a great global power or beast that will essentially reign over the earth or all those that dwell on the earth and they will worship the image of the beast. In light of this it is reckless of any leader or religious leader to be promoting concepts of total allegiance and anything even close to "worshipping" of a flag which easily constitutes an image of a global power or beast. Yes I understand this worshipping of an image can be symbolic of other actions or the state of your heart toward something but we should be waaay past anything even remotely BAAL. Think about it, isn't it really embarrassing?
Again, object veneration; get over it, advance yourself, ascend, whatever. Be smart, we can avoid a lot of stupidity.
