President Obama said we can't expect 100% security and 100% privacy but he says it full well knowing the American people don't expect 100% security. We never expected it because we understand giving up any of our constitutional rights to privacy is detrimental to our integrity as a nation and our future security from tyrants. We do not expect there will be no casualties from our efforts to engage terrorists abroad so why should we expect perfect security here. Are we willing to sacrifice our soldiers lives when no rights are on the line but unwilling to show courage here when fundamental rights are on the line.
And it is ludicrous. The NSA has said it has stopped one terrorist plot for all the spying over all the calls and internet e-mail communications out there but even that one cannot be discussed because they label it a secret classified document and so unable to be verified by the public. If posed accurately the American people will not allow all of their communication to be screened by the government for stopping one terrorist
Are you so afraid that you are willing to give up hard fought for rights for stopping a few terrorists?
Clearly it is dishonorable and a shame if we allow it or more if we advocate it.
We are still the land of the free and the home of the brave. Our rights are more important to us than threats from terrorists. If we are willing to sacrifice our soldiers lives engaging terrorists shouldn't we all be able to lay it on the line during these times in a relatively safe civilian environment under a minor threat from terrorists and it is minor when one questionable terrorist plot foiled in all the years of mass surveillence is all they have. More and above this is that the real solving of terrorists plots is done by the boots on the ground not peering into all of our private communications through electronic surveillence. If the government knew everything everyone thought, they would intercept every terrorist and criminal before they could act but the question is will you give them that if they could and were willing to use it. Just where do you think you are headed?
Benjamin Franklin once said that " "They that can give up a little liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety". He said that because he was sure we were the land of the free and home of the brave, that we would be moved and motivated by his words.
Let's hope we still have the salt to receive it.
